Some members of Oppositelock are planning on driving our winter bangers across the ice road in Pointe Fortune Quebec (weather permitting) on Sunday Feb 15th 2015. It looks like the high temperature will be a whopping -19C that day, so the weather should permit.
Three of us did this last year, and it was a great time. This year having done it last year, we have a legit plan. The plan is to meet at NOON at the Esso in Rigaud Quebec. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
From there we will convoy a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to the ice road in Pointe Fortune and drive across the Ottawa River. At the far end of the ice road, there is a toll both. The price is $6.50, and it's cash only. The ice road website is here: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
From there we will proceed to the Tim Hortons in !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for some coffee, donuts and chit chat. From there we will proceed our separate ways home. Last time, I was home in central Ottawa just before 5pm.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
If you're coming from Montreal the distance to Rigaud is actually shorter so you too should be home for supper.
Here's a video of last years shenanigans. If you guys have any questions, comments or suggestions chime in below or email me at thebigbossyboss at gmail dot com
Thank you for reading!

Nice timing, tomorrow my 2015 rally map/rally calender are going up on The Rally Takeover.
Also, Perce Neige is an awesome event, though it can be balls cold sometimes. When I went the high was -3° F (so about -20°C).

I can make it, although I will need a ride with someone (if anyone is offering). I can help pay for has and will pay the toll of whoever I ride with.

You can probably ride with me, although I have another buddy also coming, so someone would have to ride in the back seats.

Hahaha don't worry I live about one hour south, so the weather is the same-ish.
The lowest high temperature I ever remember here is -26 C or -14F. I'll just probably wear my ski clothes. But your advice is well heeded for anyone coming from the further south.

I was in the car sticking my arm out of the passenger window.
And yeah, I'd be up for both, and I am able to give rides.

If you wouldn't mind, that'd be swell. Although I'll go with whoever is least inconvenienced.

Ooh, I have my own wheels now. The ice bridge may be a possibility this year. Reply to me here as we approach the date and I'll let you know.
Are old guys with kids welcome? :-)

Are we allowed to do 4-wheel drifts on the ice, or do regular road rules apply? ;)

Last year we drifted within moderation. It does not take much speed to break car loose on the ice, the speed limit is 30, but you can drift at that speed.

If I lock the centre differential, I can 4-wheel drift all the way across at 10 km/h and totally pretend it was an accident. "Ooops, not used to this all-wheel drive, officer!"

Go for it!! I would love to see that!!!
I only ask we abide by the speed limit because that's kind of a safety thing on ice. The faster you go the bigger the wave gets underneath the ice which can lead to breakage and watery death.

This is relevant to my interests. Not sure about the ice bridge drive but would love to do some more winter rally photo-ing.

Great. I will be headed up there with a bud, so I'll keep an eye out for your white golf. I won't be taking pictures myself...because I don't own a true camera.

Hey thanks, I just saw this again. What's your plan throughout the day? Do you jump ahead of competitors to view the next stage?

Our plan is the following: Leave downtown around 7, get to Galeries Maniwaki around 8 for parc exposee, take off at 8:15 for the first stage of Blue Sea 1, (south of Maniwaki), that will be stage 2 of the rally run, then go to Furley stage for stage 3, then back to Blue sea, for stage 5, back to Farely for stage 6, which should conclude by about Noon. Those stages are about 14 kms apart according to the map so we will be hustling because they are run back to back.
Then we will take a bit of a break, drive back up into town and beyond, get up to St. Jerome Mistubishi stage for about 3:00, its run once at 3:30 and once at 5, and probably head back to Ottawa afterwards.
It appears that the only stages that have viewing points are Blue sea, Northwest and St. Jerome Mistubishi.
The Resto-Pub Rabaska stage seems to be in an almost inaccessible area.
Later today I could probably send you some maps if you'd like. Email me at thebigbossyboss at gmail dot com and I will get my maps over to you this afternoon or tonight.
In total we are planning on doing stages 2,3,5,6,11,12 Stage 10 and 16 finished also look accessible from town, but I don't think we'd have time for 10 without affecting 11, and will probably be home by the time stage 16 concludes at night.

Oh cool, I didn't look closely enough to see the stages repeat. Me and my friend will hopefully be able to do something similar, maybe every other stage to hopefully minimize transit.

did you end up getting something sorted for a way to the rally? I have a friend I'm picking up in Vanier, and I can scoop you up as well on the way.

Ah, I'm not headed to the rally, but the ice road driving. If you're still offering for ice road road trip, I'm down, but five exams next week mean no rally for me.

Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to be able to make it, I thought the 15th was the Saturday earlier, my fault for not checking a calendar. Hope you guys get sideways though! Do you know if anyone from the area is going to be heading down to ESPR in April? The boy scout camp gravel stages this year seems like it'll be a blast.

Sorry it didn't work out this time.

I'm in Montreal and may join. Just to verify, is this a legal road? I'd either be bringing a friend's car (it has a v8, gated shifter and mid-engine) depending on their plans but most likely I'll be bringing a rental.

This is the website for the road. http://www.pontdeglace.com/
I am not sure if it's a true legal road or not. It might be on par with a parking lot or similar in a legal sense. It is run professionally and they test it for thickness.

Thanks! From an insurance standpoint, it seems I should be fine with whatever I bring. Basically just waiting for a situation to play itself out to see if I'll have a lot more free time on my hands.
